The Mindset of Marketing Your VA Business Pt. 1

The mindset of marketing your virtual assistant business is different than the mindset needed to sell your VA business services. Marketing and selling are not the same thing. Hearing this, VAs everywhere will certainly breathe a sigh of relief.
Before we get into the mindset of marketing we first need to understand the differences between marketing and sales.
- Marketing builds awareness and attracts potential clients to your VA business.
- Sales is the process of converting (having conversations) with those same potential clients.
These are two very distinct differences. It’s also why companies separate these two things into two separate departments.
When you hear VAs say that they are nervous, afraid, anxious, or even terrified of marketing themselves or their business it’s because they are jumping directly to sales conversations rather than being excited about creating awareness around their business.
This is also the reason why VAs don’t fear conversations with those potential clients who were referred to them. Someone else already created awareness for them. However, it is important to note that if you don’t create awareness for your business as a business owner, you will never truly enjoy the freedom and flexibility of running your own VA business. Instead, you will merely be seen as a contracted service provider working to fulfill the desires of another person or company. The reason is because the power never shifted from someone else to you and if you never know where your next client is coming from, it leaves you feeling naturally powerless.
With the same type of excitement you started your VA business, bring that excited mindset into your marketing. Remember that your marketing is an ongoing process to create awareness that doesn’t end. For that, you’ll want to create a strategy.
“Good ideas are common – what’s uncommon are people who’ll work hard enough to bring them about.” – Ashleigh Brilliant
When you plan your marketing strategy with the mindset of sales, it can feel salesy and unauthentic. When you market your business with the mindset and mere intention of creating awareness, you are relinquishing the pressure to make each post or email a sale. Not to mention, having an appropriate expectation for your efforts.
Even better when you approach your marketing with the right mindset, you’ll also take the time to understand the mindset of your potential clients.
- What is their current mindset?
- Why is what you’re sharing important to them?
- What is their preferred method to learn more about you?
- How often do they like to hear from you?
- Why is what you’re sharing important to them?
- Where can you be found?
Be consistent in your mindset of marketing. The “rule of seven,” says your potential clients need to hear or see your message at least seven times before taking any action. Your mindset understands that you’re not sending seven messages for someone to buy your service. Your mindset says you are making sure that potential clients are aware of you.
The mindset of marketing your VA business is a powerful tool. With a closed mindset that isn’t aware of what you have to offer and doesn’t share with any potential clients, marketing is burdensome. A growth mindset in your marketing, with the desire to create awareness, is the mindset that will make marketing enjoyable.
