Self-Care & Being A Virtual Assistant

Self-Care Virtual Assistant

Practicing self-care and being a virtual assistant means we often put ourselves at the bottom of the list. There seems to be so many other individuals that come before us. Of course, we have our families to take care of. Our client’s needs are always on the top of our minds because we can’t relax if we know we haven’t taken care of business. If you have a team or employees, you have to make sure as a leader you are meeting their needs as well.

We give and give because it is all a labor of love. As assistants, giving is in our DNA and it’s hard to remember when we need to turn it off. When we don’t turn off our client assisting, we end up giving so much of ourselves to others that we have nothing left to give ourselves. There has never been more of a need to not only take care of ourselves physically but also mentally.

Self-care is not a luxury it is a must have business strategy.

Taking long weekends and vacations are not enough to truly care for yourself or your business. Self-care must be a daily practice for yourself and a useful strategy for your business.

You can’t give from an empty tank.

You can’t do your best work running on fumes.

You won’t ever hear anyone say that they are “empty of joy” or that their “heart is empty” in a positive way.

Every day, for yourself, for your family, and for your business it is absolutely necessary to find a way to fill yourself up in self-care.

The Association of Virtual Assistants understands the unique challenges VAs face when it comes to self-care and we address them often in our members-only Slack community. During the month of November we are devoting our blog series and training to the topic as well.

AVA members will benefit from the training provided by Ali Pruit, remote work “coachsultant”. Ali has personally experienced the mental and real physical struggle that takes its toll when we don’t practice self-care. As virtual assistants, the desire for freedom and flexibility is the goal and our mantra. However, freedom and flexibility needs to be managed to be enjoyed!

On Thursday, November 12th Ali is going to share how to embrace your own very personal journey that when done successfully, balances working well while designing and living your best life which includes becoming your best self.

While assisting everyone in your life and virtual assistant business never forget that you are your first client to serve and at the top of our to-do list is to care for yourself.
